The SU 1500 Variant universal spindle lathe is a numerically controlled machine designed for rough and finish machining of shafts and flange parts, threading, drilling, turning of tapers, and various rotationally symmetrical surfaces. The machine features a horizontal bed with a rigid design. The guideways of the bed are hardened and ground, and the mating surfaces on the longitudinal slide are coated with Turcite B sliding material. The SU 1500 Variant lathe is an automatic cycle-controlled machine equipped with a Heidenhain control system.

The longitudinal feed drive – Z-axis – is powered directly by a servo drive to the ball screw. The cross feed drive – X-axis – is also powered directly by a servo drive to the ball screw. Both feed measurements are taken via encoders mounted on the servomotors. The machine can be operated either manually or under control.
