Description
A mobile PCM thermal storage system transports thermal energy (waste heat or process heat) using phase change materials (PCM). It stores heat through changes of state, allowing it to achieve two to four times the capacity of conventional water tanks despite compact dimensions. This system can be transported as a swap body by truck.

Key Functions & Details

Principle (latent heat): Storage media like paraffins or salt hydrates melt at specific temperatures, absorbing significant amounts of heat in the process. Upon solidification, this energy is released at precisely the same temperature.

Capacity & Efficiency:

Since the energy (from the phase change) is stored without a significant increase in temperature, the tanks offer much higher range. A modern mobile PCM storage unit typically holds storage volumes of several megawatt-hours (MWh).

Areas of Application:

Perfect for supplying district heating to industrial facilities, hospitals, schools, swimming pools, or residential complexes. The container can be fully charged with surplus heat at a biogas plant, for example, and then delivered to the point of use to discharge the stored heat.
Ideally suited for operators of biogas plants, wood gas CHP systems, industry, etc. where surplus process heat is available.
