The 4 BST beam type is used to support chipboard, steel panels or similar, which then close off level with the top edge of the rack beams.

This design does not reduce usable height, and the front edge of the step beam also protects the shelves or panel inserts from damage.

The beams are not intended for pallet storage, but serve as order picking levels—i.e., for storing cartons, small parts, etc.
