The moving portal is fabricated from a solid single piece that is anchored to the base and travels on prismatic guides with recirculating ball carriages of the highest quality. The working unit is attached and moves on Y and Z axes, also on prismatic guides with recirculating ball carriages. Motion for the lower moving unit (X axis) and the working unit along the gantry traverse (Y axis) is accomplished via rack and pinion drives with helical gears, providing higher tooth engagement for greater acceleration and increased speed along X and Y axes. The specially designed helical gearing greatly reduces wear on mechanical parts and ensures quieter operation. The vertical Z axis is driven by a recirculating ball screw, ensuring perfect balance under dynamic load and withstanding high acceleration and deceleration. The main milling unit is directly coupled to the Z-axis carriage, delivering extremely high finishing quality due to the elimination of vibrations.
