Thermoplastic Applicator
Application Area
The thermoplastic applicator applies a thermoplastic polymer to rectangular glass panels as part of a solar module production line. The polymer forms a seal to a second glass pane, which is applied in a subsequent production step.
Feeding, application, and removal of the glass panels are carried out on horizontally running belts/conveyors.
The thermoplastic applicator is a highly sophisticated machine that must meet numerous requirements with great precision. For this reason, only raw materials (glass, sealant) that conform to the specifications on the following pages should be processed. This helps ensure high-quality and safe production.
Performance Data and Connection Values
- Maximum transport speed: 18 m/min
- Height of the glass running surface: 1100 mm
- Height of the applied sealant bead: 0.5 to 1.2 mm
- Maximum width of the applied sealant bead: 12.0 mm

Requirements for Sealant Drums
Design:
Material drum with lid D18 acc. to DIN 6644 – with foot (F1) and smooth outer surface (mantle version, smooth).

- Minimum wall thickness: 1.25 mm

Processable are glass panels with smooth surfaces (float glass).

Processable thermoplastic polymers are based on polyisobutylene (butyl). The polymer must be flowable at about 110°C to 130°C and exhibit a defined viscosity profile.
Only materials that are proven in practical use and have been approved by the manufacturers of these substances as well as by Bystronic for your intended application should be used.
