Our machine concept WL 6: The WEIMA high-performance shredder, with its flexible application possibilities, can process all types of wood materials (hardwood, softwood, chipboard, MDF, plywood, veneer offcuts, etc.) into fuel chips, achieving enormous volume reduction, especially with bulky materials.

Operating principle: The machine is equipped with a large feed hopper, which can be loaded via conveyor belt or manually. This hopper can be customized to individual requirements and guarantees continuous and cost-effective material feeding without manual assistance. The hydraulically controlled pusher feeds the wood waste to be shredded into the rotor’s cutting area, with automatic, load-dependent regulation. The internal pusher guides are made from highly wear-resistant plastic (polyamide) and are adjustable. The hydraulic cylinders are mounted with gimbal suspension to prevent lateral forces on the piston seals.

The patented and profiled V-rotor, made of solid steel, has a diameter of 252 mm and operates at a rotor speed of 80–120 rpm. The concave-ground, aggressive, and four-way reversible knives/cutting crowns are seated in milled knife pockets on special knife holders. This patented system guarantees, for the first time, a reduced cutting gap between counter-knife and rotor, resulting in high throughput, low energy consumption, and optimal discharge of the shredded material. The screen beneath the rotor determines the chip size (10–100 mm). Optionally, a hydraulically opening screen basket is available.

Power transmission from the electric motors is via V-belts to a heavy-duty gearbox, mounted on one side of the rotor shaft.

Precise cutting at high throughput with profiled V-rotor: The V-rotor, specially developed by WEIMA, is universally applicable and made from solid material. Its aggressive material intake, with up to two knife rows, ensures high throughput with low power requirement. It can be equipped with hardened cutting knives (edge lengths 30 mm and 40 mm), which are multiple reversible when worn, drastically reducing maintenance costs.

Intuitive operation via Siemens PLC control with touch display: To ensure optimal coordination of electronics and machine, we design, build, and wire our own control cabinets, exclusively using premium components (e.g., Siemens or Rittal). Intuitively operable touch surfaces ensure fast adjustments. Features such as adjusting the pusher stroke or stop ensure high throughput. Built-in overload protection also prevents machine damage.
