Centreless grinding is a process used for the grinding of cylindrical workpieces and is particularly employed for high-volume production of rollers, cylindrical and conical rollers, nozzle needles, pump pistons, hydraulic slides, crossheads, and drills, among others. During centreless plunge grinding, the workpiece is ground in a single pass thanks to the transverse movement of the grinding wheel. For this purpose, both the grinding wheels and regulating wheels are dressed with a negative profile of the workpiece using a profiling tool.

Through-feed grinding, or continuous grinding, and longitudinal grinding: the workpieces are processed continuously, with axial feed through the alignment gap.
