MERCEDES-BENZ 280 GE (GFG 460.2) lang Feuerwehr VRW *TÜV + H*

Original early fire service G-Class from second hand, never previously used for civilian purposes.

TÜV and H-certificate (according to §23 StVZO) passed in September 2025.

Technical inspection valid until 09/2027 ("no defects found", approved by DEKRA).

Year of manufacture: 1981 / First registration: 07-1981.

Original mileage is just 29,800 km over its more than 44 years of fire service operation.

Rapid intervention vehicle (VRW) with ZIEGLER body and Knurz-Kirsch generator providing 5 KVA output.

German vehicle with original registration document (only 2 registered owners to date) – always registered and operational or stored in a garage until 10/2025.

The vehicle manufacturer is still listed as GFG "Geländefahrzeug-Gesellschaft", at that time a joint venture between Daimler-Benz and Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Austria. This is one of the last vehicles built under this manufacturer name; shortly thereafter, "Daimler-Benz" appeared as the manufacturer in registration papers.

According to the 1991 entry, a complete MATTER roll bar system was installed in the vehicle and remains fitted today.

Additionally, a small roof rack system is included for transporting long equipment items.

The long 280 GE is the largest and most powerful model from the first G-Class series that could be ordered ex works as a Mercedes G-Class at the time.

The inline six-cylinder petrol engine M110 with 2717 cc and 115 kW/156 hp runs smoothly.

4-speed manual transmission with differential locks.

Power steering.

A maximum speed of 155 km/h is registered.

An auxiliary drive for operating the generator is also present.

Most recently, the vehicle was primarily used for transporting a portable fire pump (TS) with suction hoses and accessories. Therefore, there are no rear seats, only a loading area. Apart from the 2 front seats, no further seats are available.

According to the original paperwork, it is registered as a '3-seater' and the registration type is 'Other vehicle—fire service rapid intervention vehicle (VRW)'.

Unladen weight is specified as 2360 kg.

The permissible total weight was increased from the original 2900 kg to 3030 kg, as per the 1991 registration entry.

This gives the 280 GE a current payload capacity of 670 kg.

Overall dimensions: Length 4395 mm / Width 1700 mm / Height 2150 mm.

Tyres: 205/80R16.

Equipped with good winter tyres bearing the snowflake symbol according to the latest legal requirements (DOT = 2018).

The G does not have a trailer hitch, but the basic crossmember is installed. No information is available regarding retrofitting or towing capacity, as the original registration document marks these fields as 'not applicable'.

The 280 GE is immediately available and ready for registration. It was recently driven a long distance on the motorway to us, which it completed without any issues. According to verbal information, the G is accident-free, but this cannot be substantiated and is therefore communicated as 'hearsay' to the buyer.

The vehicle has always been well cared for, but has of course seen use. Therefore, don't expect a new vehicle, but a structurally sound and well-preserved example for its 1981 year of manufacture.
