Opis
Vehicle location: Bovenden, depot vehicle, switch 5, leaf suspension, tow-bar air-light-hydraulics. Wheelbase: 3250 mm. Body: classic truck – three-way tipper body. Swirl chamber diesel engine type EM4-20, 4-cylinder (inline), 6024 cm³, water-cooled, non-synchronized 5-speed gearbox, maximum speed: 60 km/h. The successor model to the H3 was the H3A truck. It was unveiled to the public at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1949 and produced from mid-1950 to 1956 at the Zwickau VEB Kraftfahrzeugwerk HORCH, initially as a flatbed truck. The H3A was a complete new development designed as a long-nosed truck with a diesel engine. The development of the diesel engine is based on a VOMAG design. At the Leipzig Spring Fair, the H3A was also presented as a tractor unit with a tank semi-trailer. Other variants included a three-way tipper, livestock transporter, road tractor, tanker, as well as special bodies for postal services and the German Red Cross (DRK), and as a furniture van. Around 180 front-entrance buses (model H3B) were produced at the LOWA plant in Bautzen based on the H3A chassis. The main area of deployment was primarily the civilian sector, but the H3A was also used by the People’s Police and, later, by the barracked People’s Police and the National People’s Army (NVA).
