The Hosokawa Alpine AFG fluidised bed jet mill is ideal for ultra-fine grinding of a variety of dry materials, providing precise control of the cut point or maximum particle size, thanks to the integrated classifier wheel design, featuring the Hosokawa Alpine Turboplex ATP classifier head. This micronizer is suitable for pulverising coarse materials into fine powders for industries where micronisation is required, such as mining, chemical, food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, etc. This mill is capable of processing coarse, hard products up to approximately 10 Mohs hardness with minimal wear, achieving extreme fineness with d97 values between 4 and 100 microns maximum particle size (depending on the product) at the lowest possible energy consumption. Grinding takes place at the lower section of the mill, where the nozzles inject high-pressure compressed gas into the fluidised bed filled with feed material. The resulting gas jets cause the particles to collide, breaking them down and thereby reducing their size. The grinding occurs in the centre of the chamber, away from the mill housing, resulting in exceptionally low abrasion wear, making this grinder ideal for processing abrasive materials or those requiring minimal product contamination. Within the same chamber, air flow carries the fine particles to the classifier wheel, where unwanted coarse grains are rejected for reprocessing, while the fine particles pass through the classification zone and proceed to the next step, usually filtration. Sometimes, a cyclone or even an air classifier is installed between the mill and the filter. Owing to the large process airflow required, only a minimal temperature increase is expected during milling compared to other grinding and crushing technologies. The final particle size distribution can be easily adjusted by altering parameters such as compressed gas pressure, nozzle diameter or design, classifier wheel speed, air volume, fill level or feed rate, etc. Technical details: No explosion protection (NPSR), not ATEX, not suitable for inert operation (N2).
