In the manufacturing process for spiral bevel gears, the quality of the
gear manufacturing tools used plays a decisive role. Especially in dry milling,
high gear quality and long tool life can only be achieved through precisely
adjusted knife heads.
The Oerlikon Knife Head Setting and Testing Device CS 200 enables quick and
easy adjustment of individual blades, checks their position, and documents
the measurement results. The measurement process on the CNC-controlled testing
device is semi-automated: all actions required to perform the process are shown
on the display for operator guidance. The positioning of the individual knives
in the knife head, as well as setting the height of the knife tips, is largely
automatic thanks to a special procedure, and is simultaneously documented

via a run-out diagram. A subsequent measuring process checks the radial position
of both the internal and external cutting edges of all knives in the knife head.
If individual inspection parameters on the knives do not meet the tolerance
requirements, these can be adjusted individually. Thanks to the combination of
a semi-automated adjustment process, operator-guided setup actions, and automatic
measuring processes, knife heads can be set quickly, conveniently, and with high
precision.
Operator-guided adjustment and inspection process:
- Graphical display of the knife head design as well as measurement results with tolerance verification
- Instructions for the operator in plain text (no coded information)
- Simple allocation of measurement results to individual knives
- Documentation of setup and measurement results via printer
- Adjustment and inspection process suitable for stick blade heads of types ARCON®, RSR, Spirapid, SPIRON®, TRI-AC®
- Interface for neutral data
