The Hosokawa Alpine Contraplex CW pin mill is equipped with two counter-rotating, motor-driven discs. It is used for pulverizing soft materials, even with high fat or moisture content. It also allows for the processing of certain flexible materials or those that must retain their properties during the milling process by means of cryogenic grinding using liquid nitrogen (LN2) for freezing. This micronizer is ideal for grinding various coarse products into fine powders and is applicable across multiple industries requiring micronization, such as minerals, chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, recycling, etc.

This granulator can be used for pre-cutting, breaking, and shredding various materials. It is capable of processing coarse products with hardness up to approximately 3 Mohs, achieving a medium to fine final fineness with coarse particle sizes d97 between 40 and 500 microns (µm) depending on the product, with maximum energy efficiency. The turbo mill can achieve this wide range of finenesses thanks to its two counter-rotating pin discs, allowing the desired final fineness to be reached. This enables the machine to process a variety of products from fibrous roots or spices to granulated plastics, chemicals, or mineral products. Grinding occurs within the milling chamber, where the rotor equipped with pins impacts and projects particles against opposing rows of pins to reduce particle size. The process gas conveys the fine material out of the mill to the next step, usually a filter. Sometimes a cyclone is installed between the mill and the filter, or even an air classifier.

Due to the required air volume, only a slight increase in temperature is expected during grinding compared to other granulation and comminution technologies. The final particle size distribution can be easily adjusted by changing various parameters such as milling disc speed, type of pins, air volume, feed rate, etc.
