HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
Metal parts are machined contactlessly and precisely using this process. An electrically conductive electrolyte (saltwater) is introduced between a negatively charged tool electrode (cathode) and a positively charged workpiece (anode). The ionized material is carried anodically out of the machining gap between the electrode and the workpiece.
During the process, the electrode is mapped inversely onto the metal. The targeted current pulse, oscillating tool electrode, and extremely small working gap form the foundation for this technology's precision. The PECM process is the further development of electrochemical sinking (ECM).
By utilizing synchronized current pulses and an oscillating tool electrode, PEMTec enables an extremely small machining gap. This allows for ultra-precise and cost-effective production with no process-related tool wear.
Absolutely contactless machining without thermal or mechanical influences produces workpieces with imaging accuracy and repeatability in the lower micrometer range and surface finishes as fine as 0.03 µm.
